// How it works

Three channels. Zero silence.

UHF radio broadcasts three audio streams across 300 metres. Every headphone picks one. Three crowds, three tempos, one venue — with the lights on, the noise limiter unbothered, and not a single neighbour calling the council.

Silent disco questions answered
// FAQs

The questions everyone asks.

If yours isn’t here, ping us on the quote form and we’ll get you a straight answer in under 24 hours.

Do silent disco headphones actually have to be silent?

No — they're called silent because no amplified sound leaves the headphones. Inside the room you'll hear chatter and laughter, but there's no music playing through speakers. That's exactly why hotels, councils, and noise-limited venues use them — you can run a full club night without a single decibel registering on the room's noise limiter.

How does a silent disco actually work?

Three transmitters sit at the front of house. Each broadcasts a different audio source on its own UHF radio channel. Every wireless headphone receives all three streams simultaneously, and the wearer presses a button on the cup to choose which channel they listen to. The LED ring on the headphones changes colour to show which channel is active — so you can spot from across the room who is on which.

What's the broadcast range of the headphones?

300 metres line-of-sight from the transmitter. Walls, bodies, and structural columns reduce that figure, but in a normal venue you will get strong, dropout-free reception across the whole room, the bar, the smoking area, and usually well into the car park.

How long does the battery last?

10 hours on a single charge for both the headphones and the transmitters. Every unit arrives fully charged and PAT-tested, so you get the entire evening on one battery cycle with no mid-event swap-outs.

Are silent disco headphones Bluetooth?

No — UHF radio. Bluetooth maxes out at around 10 metres, struggles in dense crowds, and introduces audio lag that destroys any DJ-style mixing. UHF travels 30 times further, supports unlimited simultaneous listeners on the same channel, and has zero pairing or dropout problems.

Can you use a silent disco outdoors?

Yes — outdoor events are one of the best use cases. There is no amplified sound to manage with neighbours, weather, or council restrictions, so you can run a silent disco anywhere from a beach to a back garden without a noise permit. The kit is splash-resistant but not waterproof, so we recommend a covered area for the transmitters if rain is forecast.

What happens if a headphone breaks during an event?

Every booking includes spare units packed in the case, plus replacement ear pads. If a headphone genuinely fails on the night, the spare slots in immediately and the guest is back on the dancefloor in under a minute. We have not had a single event in years where the kit caused a stoppage.

Do you supply DJs as well as the equipment?

No — Silent Disco Club provides the kit only. You plug in any audio source you like: a laptop running Spotify, a hired DJ controller, three different phones with curated playlists, even live streamed radio. We are happy to recommend DJs we have worked alongside if you need names; just ask when you enquire.

How does delivery and collection work?

The kit ships so it arrives 24 hours before your event, fully charged and PAT-tested in a flight case with handles and wheels. Collection is the next working day after the event — Saturday event means Monday pickup. Pricing includes UK-wide delivery to all mainland addresses with no hidden carriage fees.

How quickly can I get a quote?

Within 24 hours of submitting the enquiry form. Quotes are fixed-price and fully itemised — kit hire, delivery, collection, insurance, VAT — so the number you see is the number you pay. No deposits required to receive the quote.

Can children and older guests use the headphones?

Yes — the headphones adjust for any head size from around age 5 upwards. Maximum volume is capped well below hearing-damage thresholds for safer use with younger guests, and the LED ring helps kids spot their friends across a busy room. Older guests benefit from the personal volume control, which means anyone can set their own level rather than being stuck with whatever a room speaker dictates.
